Tell us about your special day…

We got married at Greyleigh in Kiama. As soon as Kayla and I visited the beautiful Greyleigh we fell in love with the vendue! It really didn’t come close to any other venues we visited on the south coast.

We knew we wanted to have a garden wedding and wanted somewhere where all our bridal party could stay for the whole weekend. Greyleigh ticked all of these boxes.

The grounds are just so incredible, and the decor of the houses reminded me of an old English country cottage, which we loved.

We wanted to keep it pretty minimal, simple and timeless. As we were having a kind of garden wedding, we chose green and white for our florals and touches of linen for our signage. It was super simple but didn’t think we needed anything else.

As we had 9 bridesmaids (including 1 bridesboy!), we decided to let them choose their own outfits and gave them pastel blue, green and yellow colour palette to choose from. Their outfits worked perfectly together.

Tell us about your love story…

We meet in 2015 in North Carolina in the US of all places. We were both doing a year studying abroad over there. After a year and a half apart, I moved out to Australia and have been here ever since.

Kayla proposed on Rhossili beach in the South of Wales, UK. My family go on holiday here every year since before I was even born. It was very special as all my family where there and we all got to celebrate together with lots of pizza and champagne!

How did you discover Prea James Bridal

I was lucky enough to work for the magical Prea for 3 years. There was no doubt in my mind Kayla and I would both be wearing PJB to the wedding.

Working with all the lovely dresses every day, it took me some time to figure out what I wanted. Especially when Prea was always showing me new designs. When she showed me the Yolanda from the Demi-couture line, I knew that was the one for me. I think it was the neck scarf that tipped me over the edge with the whole look, it is just “Chefs Kiss”! My mum was coincidentally visiting from the UK when I first tried it on. That was a super special moment that she was there with me.

I was easily convinced (by Prea!) that I needed a second look outfit. I had originally fallen in love with the Sidonie gown, so we chose to make it into a fun little mini dress and add the sleeves from the Audra gown. I loved this little dress and will be wearing it to our English wedding in July this year.

Kayla has a bit more of a relaxed style than me, so the Brooke gown suited her to a tee. It is super elegant, timeless and most importantly comfortable. She was conscious that she wanted something to cover her arms for the ceremony, so the Cecile blouse was perfect to tie over her gown. I don’t think the Cecile blouse will ever not be a classic PJB piece, it is just so beautiful.

Kayla also had a really fun second look and chose the Florence feather top and Zoe pants for her second look. I had always loved the Florence top from Preas earlier collection and think the feathers are such a fun aspect, especially for the nighttime. Luckily, we are nearly the same size, so I can’t wait to steal all these pieces to wear some day!

We tried on all our lovely gowns at Preas store in Paddington. I can’t wait to go back soon to see the new VIP fitting area.

Are there any special details about your wedding that you would like to share?

I chose to hand stich our guests names onto their napkins. I can’t lie, it did take some time, but I was super happy with how they looked on the day.

My super talented friend designed our invites for us which was also really special.

What is your advice for brides to be?

I think making a list of what are the most important aspects/parts of your wedding with your partner was really helpful. This really helped us with budgeting and deciding where to spend or save our money.

Having a wedding co-ordinator is also a must or at least someone you trust to help run the day. We were lucky that our venue came with the lovely Pania and her amazing team who made our day so seamless and as stress free as possible.
