LUCY & NICK'S SHELLY BEACH WEDDING

Wedding Date: 10th October 2020
Lucy wears the Mira gown.
What was your wedding venue and why did you choose there?
Our original venue was Norah Head Lighthouse on the Central Coast, it was sentimental to our family as this was where my Grandfather lived and my family spent many a family holiday there. However, 5 weeks out from wedding date The Board of the Lighthouse cancelled due to their “fear of having Sydney siders at the venue”.
Never the less, we regrouped and my Mum and Brother helped us search for a new venue. Luckily The Boathouse, Shelly Beach was available and more than accommodating. We held our reception there and our Ceremony at Middle Head Fortifications. We loved it for its uniqueness and diversity of photos from the old forts to the beautiful headland and boats on the water.
Did you have a wedding theme/style?
We wanted classic yet fun and relaxed vibe.
How did you and your now Husband meet?
We met in Primary School, where we dated for a hot minute. It didn’t last long and we went our separate ways through High School but we always kept tabs on each other. We would often bump into each other at parties and concerts. It was 2015 when we rekindled our primary school love at a friend’s party. I made a B-line for Nick, put my hands over his eyes and asked ‘Guess who'?’. Just from the sound of my voice Nick knew it was me and from that moment on Nick was determined he wasn’t going let things drag out any longer.
What is your proposal story?
Nick proposed on our 4th anniversary. He went to a lot of trouble to make it special, he is great at surprises. I was in the city at a conference for work and we decided to treat ourselves and book a night at Pier One. We were sitting on the pier having drinks and a cheese platter and hoped to go for a walk around the harbour but the weather changed and we had gale force winds. Nick improvised and proposed in the room after surprising me after opening the bedroom door to him on one knee.
How did you hear about Prea James Bridal?
Randomly, I heard about Prea James, through my pottery teacher haha
From where did you purchase your gown?
Hope X Page, Caringbah
What do you love most about the gown?
It was relaxed and comfortable! I felt like I could be myself in it. It wasn’t restrictive or over the top. It was simple, elegant with an element of sexy.
Are there any special details about your wedding that you would like to share?
My Grandfather passed away in 2018, shortly followed by my Father in 2019. So it was important to me to have a touch of them there on the day. My Mum gave me a locket to put on my bouquet with a photo of my Grandparents and Father in it.
As my family is so tightly knit it was so special to have my Mum walk me down the aisle, and my Brother was my Man of Honour. He is a Actor and NIDA graduate and an amazing speaker, so we of course had to have him do a reading during the ceremony.
He chose: The Lighthouse by Dhaye Margaux and Dear Human By Courtney Walsh
It was also important to us to include Nick’s siblings in our day. Nick’s nieces were our gorgeous flower girls, his Brother was his Best Man and his Sister was MC. Nick’s Sister in law is a singing teacher and has an amazing voice, we were lucky enough to have her sing while we signed the paperwork. She sang “Best Part” feat. H.E.R. Daniel Caesar.
Due to COVID my Bridesman, best friend from high school, couldn’t make the wedding as he was in lock down in Melbourne.
Were there any details that you made yourselves?
Mostly the above
Finally, Do you have any words of wisdom for couples planning their big day?
As a COVID Bride, my advice to other COVID Brides is to not postpone if you don’t have to. We luckily didn’t have any family abroad and only a few interstate which meant that we could go ahead with reduced numbers. It meant that we focused on what was important and didn’t sweat the small stuff. It was the best day with such a great vibe, all our friends were so happy to be dressed up and celebrating love after the year that had been. There is nothing that we would have changed. We are so grateful and thankful for our friends and family and for all our vendors who worked so hard to pull off our day. It was truly a day to remember and one that we wish we could re-live over and over.
Wedding Vendors
Absolutely ALL of our vendors were amazing to work with, our Photographer, Videographer and Band were with us from the start and were so accommodating and flexible through all the ups and downs and changes we went through due to COVID and our original venue cancelling.
We were lucky enough to lock in The Boathouse and they were amazing!! Nothing was too difficult. After such an emotional rollercoaster they took over and relieved all of the stress.
