What was your wedding venue and why did you choose there?
Our ceremony was held at Keith Curran Park in Tweed and our reception was at a beautiful mid-century modern house in Kingscliff called Hikari House. Our original plans were to have our wedding in Byron Bay, however, COVID-19 changed that pretty quick. Bradley and I live in Sydney and a lot of our family and closest friends live in QLD, so we changed our plans about a month out to locations within the border bubble so that our nearest and dearest were able to attend.
Did you have a wedding theme/style?
Our theme definitely changed once we decided to move venues, which meant a lot of last-minute decisions, but we were so happy with the way everything turned out. Instead of white florals and a monochromatic pallet, we moved to clashing florals with red, hot pink, pale pink and white, this was complimented by touches of black throughout, including my Jimmy Choo shoes, the floral pillars at the ceremony, the table settings, candles and chairs at the reception. I would say the theme changed from “romantic meets contemporary” to a more “moody meets modern.”
How did you and your now Husband meet?
Bradley and I met at work, we became best friends, then roommates and, well the rest is history. We kept our relationship a secret from everyone until we knew it was the real deal because of how entwined our lives were.
What is your proposal story?
I came home from work on a Sunday, a week out from our holiday to Europe, to Bradley who greeted me with a g&t in hand and the wafting smell of a lasagne in the oven. He had set our loungeroom up into a romantic little cinema where we planned to watch some Euro rom-coms. I didn’t think anything of any of this, as he has always been one to surprise me with a beautiful evening if I have had to work on a weekend. After a bottle of wine and the most delicious dinner, he proposed – I barley remember a thing he said as I was a blubbering mess, I didn’t even look at the ring until he prompted me to do so. Bristi is a name our friends have called us for a long time (Bradley + Kristi) and the only thing I clearly remember him saying was “let’s make Bristi official.”
How did you hear about Prea James Bridal?
Once we were engaged (and maybe a little before, if I’m honest) I started looking in magazines and on Instagram, every single time I liked a dress, it was a Prea James Bridal gown, so I knew what I wanted right from the beginning!
From where did you purchase your gown?
I purchased my gown from the lovely ladies at Hope X Page. I only tried 2 dresses on (both Prea James) and I knew right away, as soon as I tried the Carolyn gown on, that it was the one!
What do you love most about the gown?
I loved the shape of the dress, in particular the t-shirt style of the gown which I think gave it a relaxed “cool girl” feel, the addition of the beaded bodice just added the perfect amount of glam!
Are there any special details about your wedding that you would like to share?
The date wasn’t chosen for sentimental reasons, we just thought 10/10 had a good vibe! Due to COVID everything about our wedding changed other than my dress and the date. No matter what, even if we decided to get married at the Registry with pizza for dinner (which was Plan D), we were going to do it on 10/10/20 and I was wearing my Prea James gown!
Were there any details that you (and friends and family) made yourselves?
My husband is a designer and was a DJ, so he created our website, menus and place cards and curated the perfect wedding playlist to accompany us through cocktails, dinner and by the fire. Due to the multiple changes, we hired our plates, cutlery and table linen and I did the table setting myself (other than our beautiful flowers) in between hair and makeup.
Finally, Do you have any words of wisdom for couples planning their big day?
Don’t stress about making things perfect. We ended up at Plan C and we would not change a thing.
Wedding Vendors
Photographer: Allume Weddings – amazing to work with, I hate getting my photo taken, so they really nailed our brief of capturing the day candidly!
Videographer: Allume Weddings
Hair & Makeup: Alex Ouston Beauty
Stylist: All styling was done by me
Florist: Wilderness Flowers – Mikarla was amazing, she helped us to change the look and feel of the whole day with our flowers. They were stunning.
Stationery: Menus and name cards – Sketch and Etch (designed by Bradley); website created and designed by Bradley and invitations The Distillery (designed by Bradley)

Caterer: We opted for casual and a little bit Euro. We created a moody cheeseboard upon arrival with cheeses from Quince FC and antipasto and pizza by Jordy’s Casuarina. Our drinks list was very important to us, we chose reds and whites from our favourite Australian winery, De Salis as well as a rosé and champagne from France. The beer list was also extensive, with many Inner West breweries featuring, paying homage to where Bradley and I live. Finally, our cocktails were centred around Archie Rose gin. Bradley and I hosted our engagement party at the distillery 2 years ago and tailored bottle of Archie Rose gin was one of the gifts we gave to our guests as a memento.
Hire/Prop furniture hire: All furniture, cutlery, crockery and table linen were hired through Hampton Event Hire; Candles were purchased through Southern Lights Candle Co. and candle holders were a mixture of Henry Wilson, Ferm Living, Black Blaze and No. 22.
