Alex & Chris's Palm Beach Wedding

I think I could say that working with this gorgeous bride, Alex, is where it all started for me. While I was working in bridal, this was the first dress I created for my own label.

Alex and Chris are the absolute best couple, I attended their beautiful wedding, nearing three years ago this week. I still remember that was hands down the best grooms speech I have ever heard... so much love!

Please take a look at the  beautiful photographs by Elize Strydom and read a little bit about Alex and Chris's story...

Wedding Date: 14th December 2012

What was your wedding venue (ceremony & reception)

St Andrews Presbyterian Church, Manly and Dunes, Palm Beach.

I wanted to be married in a church as is part of the tradition and this was such a lovely little sandstone church near our home that it worked out beautifully.

The reception was found by accident, my bridesmaid Nicole and I were heading up to Palm Beach to check out a possible venue and we missed the turn off and landed out the front of Dunes Restaurant. Obviously we realised we were in the wrong place, but we went in for a squiz anyway. Turned out to be a really great option, as my husband wanted to have a marquee wedding (but being the budget conscious event manager I am, I knew that wasn’t a possibility), and Dunes is made up of a gorgeous restaurant on one side and brilliant Italian marquee on the other. The best of both worlds in our opinion.

Did you have a wedding theme/style? There was no theme as such, I just wanted a beautiful day that I could look back on in years to come and still love the look and feel of the whole thing. My original idea was to have the boys in navy and the girls in an ivory kind of vibe, but the girls suggested black dresses and I’m always down for black and so the boys followed suit. Chic and classic!

How many guests did you have at the wedding? 85

How did you and your now Husband meet? Chris and I met a long time ago when I was studying at a performing arts school aged 18 with a friend of his from school. He and all his friends were turning 21 that year and I made my way along to a few birthday events, clearly I caught his eye back then. I then went off to London to visit my sister and a few short years later returned and we started dating.

What is your proposal story? After the above-mentioned catching of Chris’ eye as a young whippet, we dated and lived together for a solid 7 years before the proposal stuff started to get real. We endured the obligatory “when are you two going to get married?” enough that Chris got down on one knee with an absolutely beautiful ring a few nights before Christmas 2011. He played the night well, I booked the restaurant (a brilliant decoy), it was a delicious casual yet favourite Mexican restaurant, followed by a stroll along the beach as the sun was setting and a heartfelt proposal. I accepted (of course) and we promptly informed immediate family to kick off the celebrations over the silly season.

Bridesmaids Dresses My bridesmaids were 3 very different women with individual style and because of this I asked them to select their own black dresses and we would pull the whole vibe together. My sister Missy wore Lanvin, my friends Nicole and Amy wore Rodeo Show and Zimmerman respectively.

Band/DJ The absolutely delightful James Willing played acoustic guitar in the church for our ceremony and then brought it up to a 3-piece band for us to dance the night away at the reception.
